Ex med student here, assisted to my good share of such surgeries, and we are good nowadays to prevent complications during and post, but I personally know the tension of having a close person under the scalpel, so I understand your trepidation.

Here is my best wishes he’ll get through recovery well and with a new found source of energy.

There are methods to help the recovery process all natural if you want to feel better as in having something practical to do to contribute post op. You probably know already as you have an exploratory mind, if you need to check I can tell you what to watch out with your physician if that might interact with the drugs he’s getting after.

It will be fine and will make you closer.
Sending my best wishes

You are welcome to send me a PM if you think I can help you. I respond when I can.

Hikingout,

You have given so much of yourself here, helping complete strangers navigate some of the darkest moments of their lives. I just wanted to let you know that I will absolutely be keeping him, you, and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

As someone who has come to deeply respect both your insight and your compassion, I sincerely hope the surgery goes smoothly, the recovery is uneventful, and that this becomes just another chapter in a long life still waiting to be lived together.

Wishing your husband steady hands in the operating room, strength in recovery, and peace for both of you in the days ahead. Thank you for all the wisdom and kindness you've shared with so many of us.

You've got a lot of people pulling for you.

Sending prayers. I have faith, but also believe in karma and your work on SI has had a profoundly good influence on so many who are navigating these difficult journeys that all the good vibes are flowing to you and your husband. Will be thinking of you and him until you post again with a positive outcome.

Sending my prayers as well!

I’m sure the surgery itself will go just fine. The overall success will probably lay in recovery. It sounds like your husband is like me, can’t be idle. Any time I’ve had an injury that forced me to do nothing for even a few days it drove me nuts!
Maybe have a specific person, employee or whatever to shadow him everyday and do any and all work that requires physical strain.

I am blown away by your responses! Thank you all for this outpouring of love. I definitely appreciate the extra support as we go into all of this. I will post an update after the procedure and we get settled again.

I can’t entertain the idea that there will be anything but a positive outcome. It’s another series of challenges and growth. But we are in a good position in so many ways and we are lucky to have found this without an emergency event.

Will do. Also want to add that the very deep sleep he will be under might cause a few weeks of weirdness afterward. My h saw horses. Thought the nurses were naked and was sooo weird for about a month. On the other hand some people breeze through it. Sending prayers.

Very interesting. I did read expect them to be more emotional than normal, and I can understand why that would happen. But I would be thrown off guard if he as being loopy ridge way you describe. Good tip!
